Random Tidbits V

No grand thought to communicate to the world (though I have a rant based on being told we were making Trajan gay that I've been considering for weeks that may come out soon, but I just get too agitated to really write it), so I thought I'd just spew some of the random contents of my mind and my phone.

  • Mustard is really, really good.  Trying to surreptitiously drink mustard blend while waiting for your cheesesteak takes some skill, but can be done.
  • Related to food, a few more thoughts on the weight gain attempt.
I’m not actually the biggest fan of dairy.  It just makes me feel a little blah and almost nauseous, so I can’t use copious milk shakes to gain weight.  More avocados sounds like a very good idea!  And hadn’t thought of grits and now I’m happy.  As long as I’ve already confessed my weird relationship with peanut butter having not tried it until I was 23, I might as well confess that I’m not a fan of chocolate either.
  •  I'm not stressing too much about meeting all of Barbara Luke's specifications, but just trying to do a pretty good job of it.  And that's enough to make me happy.
  • Also related to food, Chiron is still a very big fan of bread.  Tried it as toast for the first time the other morning and he voted an emphatic YES

  • I was by myself in our house for a night (actually two nights) this weekend for the first time since before Trajan was born.  It was kinda crazy.  But I succeeded in organizing oh so much, wrangling junk, cleaning and just generally improving the universe that is our house.  And got two good nights of time in bed (I would say sleep, but I just seem incapable of sleeping more than two hours at a time at the moment).
Included within this, I decided to pull out all my 2-6 clothes and put them in plastic storage bins.  They are many of my favorites, particularly work clothes, so I'm not quite ready to part with them, but decided I didn't really need them taking up space.  I was at a tight 6 this December before things started ballooning back up, so it's definitely conceivable that I will some day get back into this clothing as I was under two months out from breastfeeding when I started going up again, and thus the storing rather than getting rid of.
  • That's all those clothes.  And yes, these are just bottoms.  I probably own too many pairs of jeans particularly since I can not wear them for work!
  •  Where were the boys, you ask?  They went to Houston and visited the zoo with Paul's parents!

  • And Chiron has a new skill.  He can hit two blocks together while standing which thus means he isn't holding onto anything.  I think this means real walking rather than just cruising is probably coming before too long.

  • In my cleaning up this weekend, I actually came across the information sheet from Trajan's 12-month well visit.  I'm backwards from typical and I have all the stats from almost every time my second child has ever been measured, but oddly didn't really have any of Trajan's, so this was interesting to me.  He was 32 inches tall (so 4 inches taller than X at that age) and weighed 23lb, 1oz (so yeah, heavier), but interestingly, his head was only 47.2 centimeters, so smaller than Chiron's!

I should write about my face rot as I actually went to a dermatologist last week, but I've exhausted my attention span, so I am positive I have anyone who has been reading as well ;-). I also attended a party for Trajan's school Friday night that was actually at the home of one of Chiron's neonatologist and had a really good conversation that I will perhaps write about sometime in the next few days. But seriously, the face rot, people.  It's not promising.

  1. As someone who had no trouble gaining more than the recommended amount of weight, I'm jealous you have to try. Both times I started out slow in the first trimester and then got up to 40lb and then 50lb by the 40/41st week. I wish I had some magical secret, but the first time I blamed Einstein's Bagels and the second time, I blamed my halloween candy stash in my desk at work (that lasted for most of the fall and winter). I want to hear more about this face rot!!

    1. I really do need to like sweet more than I do. I tend to go with sour on candies.

Bagels might be a good option. I think I'm secretly a little afraid of carbs because I've seen soapy people dealing with gestational diabetes.

    2. So many. I don't study soapy people often. Nice autocorrect.

  2. I stressed so about Dr. Luke's dietary suggestions. My own RE wanted me eating 120g of protein per day, but by the time I realized my all day sickness was leading to weight loss (starting week 6 through delivery at 14w2d) and was concerned, the OBs at my HMO had no concerns at all. (They probably should have. I think they were idiots, all around. But, that's why I'm not with an HMO anymore.) I couldn't hardly keep anything down and was relying heavily on Ensure Plus shakes (ick...not sure I could even stomach them anymore). How did you do with weight gain with your first twin pregnancy? Did you have any magic tricks? (I confess, I haven't started reading from the beginning...yet.) Oh, and I am actually interested in what the dermatologist said...whenever your attention span returns to normal. :P

    1. I didn't, was how I did it. And it didn't stress me then. I was gaining slowly and think I was up about three pounds when I got hit by two back-to-back GI bugs of death (IV fluids and gastroenterologists were involved and almost took out my appendix just to see) and lost 20 pounds from 15 to 17 weeks! That said, from 17 to 24 when I went in the hospital I managed to gain back all 20 and even go up about 5 above that. I think I ended at 29&6 26 pounds up from when I got pregnant, but I only had one baby growing from 24&2 forward.

I do one of those Ensure Plus every morning as my tide over. I didn't do them at all last time, so feel doing one a day is me telling the universe that I'm behaving. I MUCH prefer my nighttime smoothie that Paul makes and it has more protein!

I need to decide for sure if I'm really willing to post pictures documenting the face and then I'll probably write something. I'm pretty what you see if what you get, so I imagine I will ;-).

Oh, and despite my less than Barbara Luke approved weight gain last time, Chiron was 1,402 grams or 3lb, 1.4oz at birth which is fantastic for 29&6.

  3. Would you stop dressing him in the yellow daffodil skirt and coordinating tights. Geesh. Poor kid doesn't have a chance. ;-)

How I would LOVE a day to myself with my house. How I would LOVE to NOT organize and just sit and do nothing in my house.

It sounds like both of you need to start gaining some weight. How bout this. I'll give you 15lbs to start with.....the rest is up to you !
Only because I'm nice like that.

    1. 15 pounds each.

It actually had to do with strawberry shortcake. And it wasn't someone who matters, but it just kinda blew my mind. At least Austin is much more friendly than most of the rest of Texas in terms of open-mindedness, Trajan's known kids with two moms or two dads his whole life. That and having the owner of a nail salon try to refuse to give him a pedicure (he wanted blue and I can't paint to save my life) have blown my mind about double standards.

Also, I don't really want to know the details of any of my kids' sex lives. I want them to be happy and I want to see them laugh and be vitally alive with enjoyment, but the nitty gritty? I doubt I need that.

Ok, mini-rant over and I feel much better. Thanks! I also worked out my response if a similar situation ever comes up again from typing this response, "thank you for expressing your concern about my child's sex life."

    2. Oh, and no tights needed under the skirt, kid who runs warm plus Texas makes a skirt nice nearly year round ;-)

  4. How the heck do you 'make' someone gay?! That's just lame and whoever said it to you is a douche (pardon my language).

    1. Poor kid can't have dairy though, but doesn't seem to bother him.

He goes with whatever fruit we have around. Always some frozen like mixed berries, strawberries, peaches, and then some room temperature fruit including apples, clementines, bananas or really whatever else we have. He made a fun, but very tart one, featuring some left over lemons and limes. When he makes them for me, he uses a juice base rather than milk because milk and I aren't the best of friends.

Also, the two scoops of vanilla protein powder appear no matter what flavor he makes.

    2. You are making me salivate!
What protein powder does he use? I tried whole foods chocolate which is what I use daily (minimal added crap and tastes like chocolate milk) but their vanilla tastes like ass!!! Ugh.. gagging thinking of it!

    3. The bulk type from Costco, we're fancy around here ;-). He drinks it mixed with just milk or water, but I require the fruit mix because I'm picky! I can try to look up the name, but definitely not organic or anything.
